Ground Penetrating Radar Systems, Inc. - GPRS - of Arizona was contacted by a local Plumbing contractor to locate the structural reinforcements of rebar, post tension cable, as well as live electrical conduit in a concrete slab. A GPRS responded within less than 24 hours’ notification, sending a Project Manager to scan the concrete slab. The client was attempting to excavate some of the concrete in order to fix a damaged water line beneath the slab. GPRS used ground penetrating radar (GPR), which is similar to X-Ray, but more advanced and much safer, coupled with Radio detection, to locate the post tension cables, rebar, and live power conduits were easily located and marked for the client. The information provided to the client allowed them to safely remove the concrete and repair the water pipe.
Ground penetrating radar is a great tool to scan areas of post tension cables, rebar, and conduits, including PVC pipes. Ground penetrating Radar can also be used for locating underground utilities such as water, gas, electrical, communication, sewer, and other objects prior to digging or excavating.
